the welch family . portrait + family photography

Lisa found me through Cyrus’ awesome parents. I remember the day of our photo shoot I was having a pretty hectic morning, so I got to St. Paul a little bit early to look around and de-stress. Lisa showed up with Savanna, Morgan, and Maria and I completely got transported back to my childhood. The connection between these 3 sisters was so much like the one I have with my sisters, Alexis and Kyra, that it was so much fun for me to watch, and even more exciting to photograph.

We started with Savanna who is, without a doubt, going to be shattering hearts very soon:

Morgan is totally sassy in the best way possible. She demanded a photo with these folders:

And I told her that my mom has a kitten that looks EXACTLY like that. Here’s proof:

Maria is adorable and has an amazing spirit:

the vagabond bond

About a month ago the amazing Kristy {wrecklessgirl} came to me with her heart and mind overflowing with excitement over an idea for a new project. A few days before that we had talked about our vagabond lives. Since leaving our hometowns neither of us have lived in the same place for more than a year, and at pretty much the exact time I’m planning on packing up and moving to Seattle, she’s packing up and moving to Rome.

We joked about starting a website called something like brokebutinspiredcreativenomads.com, but then Kristy in all of her amazingness actually turned it into a reality; and an AMAZING reality at that.

The result is The Vagabond Bond!

Over the past few weeks it’s slowly started forming (some of you have seen it because I’ve been SO excited about it), and Kristy and I have spent gabajillions of hours hashing out details via iChat. With Kristy at the helm it’s turned into this incredible place that I go to each morning (and then 50 times throughout the day after that) to be continually inspired. I’m so grateful and excited that I can share this presence with some of my favorite photographers, and one amazing musician.

Want to know who they are?! For full bios head over to VagabondBond, but here’s a little list:

alicia price
andrew shepherd
amy seeley
bobby earle
featherlove
sarah jurado
tinywater
warm pears
wrecklessgirl

We’re all going to be posting at least one post a week, so make sure to check back often, comment and let us know you’re there, and hopefully be as inspired by all of these people as I am.

phoenix . minneapolis music photography

This show was unreal, and this tweet still holds true (although, Winnipeg stole my heart again, as usual).

It was SO hot at the Varsity for this show. The entire place was like a sauna, and throughout the entire opener the crowd at the Varsity were total zombies. But then… Phoenix got on stage and we all hit that threshold where we skyrocketed through the humidity bubble and said “fuck it, let’s dance!”. And we did.

Favorite moments:
* Love Like A Sunset
* Kyle dancing to Napoleon Says
* Dancing to Run, Run, Run
* THE SET LIST
* SingingScreaming “Fallllliiiing, Fallliinnng, Fallllinnnng, Fallllinnnnnn” as Mars jumps into the crowd
* Enjoying an incredible show with some of my favorite music peeps in Mpls
* The band giving everything they had and seeming amazed than Mpls was throwing so much energy at them

Cake in 15 has some awesome videos of the show, and a great review by Carl.

I also just found this video… photographers, check out those lights! 0:14 is why I love shooting at the Varsity. It’s so challenging (thanks, Erik!), but SO FUN.
