katrina . tacoma headshots

Katrina emailed me a few weeks ago about getting some headshots done and I was super excited. I’ve explained it a little bit before, but I LOVE headshots. I don’t know if there’s anything more real than a straight-up headshot. It’s completely 1-on-1 and is just an honest portrayal of that person.

Two days before our scheduled shoot I got this SOS via iChat from Katrina:

We decided to continue with the scheduled shoot and just reshoot if necessary. Luckily we were just fine and Katrina walked into the loft on Saturday with gorgeous blonde hair. This kind of thing has happened at least a million times before, though. We always want to look our best for photo shoots/weddings/dates/vacations, so somehow we lose our minds and decide to make a drastic physical change right before hand. {paging wrecklessgirl!;)}

I told Katrina this story, but a couple years ago I won a contest that let me shoot Lollapalooza. I had blue hair at the time and right before I left I made sure to re-blue my hair so it looked amazing. Over the weekend the combination of rain + sweat (classy) meant that I constantly had blue dye dripping down my shoulders.

Alright, enough with the embarrassing stories and onto Katrina’s headshots!

my smart hands . tacoma baby sign language

A few months ago I came across the My Smart Hands website and I contacted Ruth almost immediately just to say that I thought what she was doing was awesome. We’ve kept in touch and yesterday I was finally able to witness her baby sign language class.

It was so much fun to finally connect with Ruth and to hang out with all the kids. Be sure to visit her website and if you have kids, consider signing them up for a class! Her next class starts May 5 and is an 8-week class that teaches you over 100 signs. It was so cool to see parents communicating with their kids before they were able to verbally talk to them.

vagabondbond interview

I was interviewed by the amazing Dan Miles over on the Vagabond Bond. He rocked my world with some great questions and it was fun, and good, for me to really think about some of these things.

give me some advice on life you’ve learned, any advice at all.

Breathe. It’s easy to get worked up and overwhelmed by the here+now, but we all need to realize that we’re going to make it through everything that’s happening in our lives. What’s the alternative? If you take what’s worrying you the most, think of the worst-case scenario, and make a plan for THAT. Realize that you’d find a way to push through it, and it doesn’t seem so scary anymore.

That and jump all in, every time. We’re given this one life and so many people play it safe instead of going after what they truly feel in their hearts. So many people say they’ll do that later, once they’re ready, once they do this and this and this to prepare.

Later is always tomorrow until you make it today.
