WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

We can’t help but feel like the luckiest people ever. Our little Tacoma life is turning into pure magic.

To my clients in 2010, my first year in Tacoma, I can’t tell you how much I adore you all and how thankful I am that we connected and I was able to document your lives. After a rough 2008 and a really rough 2009 I decided to move here, a place that had been in my heart for nearly 20 years, and you all made my heart soar; I’m so excited to call Tacoma my home. 2010 was exactly what I needed in so many ways.

I CAN’T WAIT for 2011. I have so many dreams and goals and I am beyond excited to push myself in every way possible. I can’t wait to see you all in the new year, thank you all for a truly inspiring 2010:

For the past few months I’ve been counting down the days until one of my very best friends, Eliesa, flew into town. It finally happened on Friday when we picked her and Judd up from the airport and had an incredible whirlwind of a weekend. Not only did we get to hang out with Judd and Eliesa, but our insta-friends-forever, Scott and Jacqui of Slide Sideways were along for most of the ride, as well. Our adventures included Dash Point, Point Defiance, Cannon Beach, crazy raccoons, the cat game, charades, lost and found film, beach huts, custom-made underwater camera housings, ninja back cracking, ticket-takers resembling movie characters, THOUSANDS of sea lions (or 3), MILLIONS of sand dollars (or none), an octopus (or a jellyfish), stump yoga poses, slow-motion beach running, a beautiful house boat, a white duck and a grey duck, mirrors flying off of cars during torrential downpours, LOTS of driving, the quickest run on Cannon Beach ever, a concert that never happened, Brad Goreski’s twin as our waiter at Moshi Moshi, starfish as soul patches, OCCUPIED, becoming a regular at a pub, visiting the Goonies house (we think), Michael Jackson, hydroplaning, sharing embarrassing stories (Eliesa always wins this one) and, as always, laughing nonstop about everything and nothing at the same time.

Also, Eliesa is hosting what is sure to be an INCREDIBLE workshop in Palm Springs this January. If you’re a photographer that’s looking to take their business to the next level I highly suggest looking into it and contacting her for more info. I know she’s a good friend so I have a total bias, but I’ve learned so much from her in the past few years and have seen her business grow in ridiculously amazing ways. Eliesa is a kick ass photographer from Minneapolis. We’ve known each other for a few years, but strangely enough it wasn’t until I moved to Tacoma that our friendship really built up to the awesomeness that it is now. She flew out to Tacoma last May and that was the trip that sealed our friends4life status. Now every time we see each other we end up hanging out for days on end and laughing so much that tears are continually rolling and stomachs are in crazy pain.

IT’S AWESOME.

Eliesa: Scott and I both seriously adore you and are so inspired by your every day bad assery. We’re so lucky to have you as an amazing friend and can’t wait to build millions and millions of memories together. Thanks for being so fucking inspiring and having the motivation to push the photo industry to new levels; we need more people like you in the photo world and in life in general. Thanks for the mid-day phone calls with the same over-the-top laughter that happens during our real-life convos. Here’s to laab gai, flat tires, 331 happy hours, counting crows+umbrella, rogue waves, creeping around houses searching for addresses, wheelchairs, standing on stumps, huge licensing opportunities, bailing on lame industry events to continue our 14-hour hangouts, mostly I remember laughing at everything, which was usually actually nothing. I love love love you and miss you so much!

Ok, ok, we were testing out new gear and thought we were really, really funny.

We were right.

Hilarious.

It’s obvious by the switch in my music playlist that fall has hit. Sounds of The Swell Season, Manchester Orchestra, Bon Iver, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Wooden Sky, Sufjan, and Halloween, Alaska are filling the loft.

DREAMY.

Fall is absolutely, hands down, my favorite season, which is probably why, as I told Carl Zoch the other day, I moved to a place that feels like fall for 8 months out of the year.

Bring on the fall music, hot tea, cool breeze, giant sweaters, reflective thinking, and the changing leaves.
