As a photographer you’re able to jump into people’s lives; documenting moments and connections between people that, at their core, are really really amazing. To not only be able to see these connections, but to freeze them forever for people is unbelievable. On Scott’s birthday I wrote about our story. It was a little scary to throw it all out there and be so honest and open, but I’m so glad that I did. Our story is totally crazy; full of unfiltered connections and complete lack of hesitation. I love it. I love him. And I REALLY love us.
Our ability to (or inability to do anything but) wear our hearts on our sleeves has taken us on a crazy adventure. I wish that I knew how to put it into words for you and I wish I could convince all of you to do the same. In love, especially, it’s easy to get scared and many people are quick to throw their guard up. I say, tear it down. Share your heart with people. Be open. Be honest. Move across the country (or the world) on a whim. I know, i know, what if it doesn’t work out:
What if it does.

A million thanks to miss Sarah Jurado for coming down to Tacoma, spending the day with us, and capturing our connection. We’re SO lucky and we adore you! {Sarah has more photos of us and some super kind words on her blog, as well. <3 <3}
One more round on the soap box and then I'm done; I promise.
For some reason it's been decided that you only need to document your life when you get married, or maybe when you have a child, but other than that there's no need. I think that's RIDICULOUS. We have so many incredible connections with people throughout our lifetimes and it's so unfortunate that those are rarely documented. A Tuesday afternoon with your significant other or best friend or child or parent or pet are all just as important to capture. I really wish I had those connections documented throughout my whole life.
Scott and I have only been together for 5 months. (No, really). I think it's SO COOL that we have these photos to document our connection right now, and I can't wait to keep getting professional photos taken and see how that changes throughout our lives.
So! Think about it, and instead of asking yourselves why you should have photos taken right now, ask why you SHOULDN'T. This isn't me trying to get you to book a session, I really believe this, wholeheartedly. Even if I'm not the photographer for you I think this is so important, and if you shoot me an email I’ll help you find an amazing photographer wherever you’re at that fits with you and that will do an incredible job documenting your life.
Ok, ok, soap box over. Now: US!

I very much see your point. I think that the general practice of documenting life's special events (such as weddings and children) stem from the beginning of photography. It was so expensive to get a photographer to come to you and even then it was costly to get the pictures.Even today (aside from pictures for time deals) it's still expensive to hire a good photographer. As a result it's generally the weddings, birthdays, and children that get the documentation.On a plus side, with the invention (and now standardization, pretty much) of cell phones with cameras built in as well as the development in technology allowing the point and shoot camera to be even smaller, not to mention that all of those are now digital (no developing costs) greatly increases our ability to document our life.Where as in the past, our great grandparents and even further back in the generations would have an entire photo album dedicated to 1 event (birthday, wedding, building a house, children, etc.) it was still all about the MAJOR life events. Now when you look at peoples profiles on Facebook or Myspace, you not only see those major life events, but you will also see last weekend at the bar, or at the park, or out camping, etc.So I think that through time and technology your wish is actually coming true.–On a side note, I know you don't know me as we've never actually met, but I felt the need to reply to your note for some reason. So there you go… my 2 "sense".
I love your stories and you guys are incredibly cute together! I completely agree: having photos of a regular ol’ Tuesday can be just as awesome as having photos of important events.
