Editing through these definitely made me miss my family back in Minnesota, and just reaffirmed, once again, that capturing these fun moments between families is absolutely my dream.

A couple days before our session Laurel and I talked on the phone and she asked me what we did in case of rain and I simply said “well! Mostly we just embrace it!” On the day of our session nature decided to test us and threw us CRAZY rain and INSANE wind. I was so impressed and thankful for how much Laurel and Paul did, indeed, totally embrace it and how they insisted that we grab the umbrellas and go down by the water.

Natalie was the sweetest little lady, with the most gorgeous blue eyes. She also thought Scott was HILARIOUS (she’s right).

We photographed Nancy, Buck, Bennett, and Rachael for the first time in May and both Scott and I were ridiculously excited to meet up with them again last weekend to get some new family portraits. Rachael has definitely moved on to independent + walking toddler, and Bennett always amazes me with how smart he is and how intrigued he is by everything around him.

We already can’t wait until next time!

We met Sarah and Andrew at their gorgeous apartment near Wright Park where we hung out with their hilarious cat, Socks, who was super feisty and stubborn (my kind of cat!). We managed to sneak a few photos with him and then went on a little adventure through the neighborhood.

It’s always interesting to do sessions for different families and catch a little glimpse of their lives and their connections together. Little Owen was so curious and you could see him processing everything as he was looking around the massive library and playing in the kid’s area. Nothing was more fascinating to him, though, than watching the elevators through the glass enclosure and it was kind of magical to be able to watch him see that for the first time.

The other thing that I took away from this session is the love and connection between Lisa and Daniel. A lot of times I think it’s easy to get caught up in what your child is doing, and in their life, that the relationship between couples can slide to the back burner. It was inspiring to watch Lisa and Daniel show so much love to Owen while maintaining a strong connection between each other.

Thanks to Katie, Scott, Audrey, Julian, and Simon for laughing with us and for introducing me to Wally’s White River Drive-In in Buckley! I’m craving that Peanut Butter + Chocolate malt RIGHT NOW.

The light was SO DREAMY that day, I couldn’t get enough of it.



Ok. This freaking amazing photo that Scott took. I was editing these, stopped dead in my tracks when I got to this photo, and had to upload it to tumblr immediately. Scott’s been an incredible photographer since far before we met and it’s been such a fun journey to watch him fall in love with photography all over again and really hone his skills. He’s blowing me away nonstop and is starting to keep me on my toes!

I wanted to make sure to get a few photos of Becky and Gary together without Esther. I’m so glad I did; I adore you guys.




A super fun perk of photographing kids is that occasionally we get to experience some “firsts” in their lives. This was Esther’s first encounter with a water fountain and it had all of us cracking up.
ANOTHER first was rolling down a hill. Esther looked at Becky like she had lost her mind when she showed her how to do it. So fun!
