This session is a perfect example of why I love to do engagement sessions before weddings and why I always include them in my wedding package. Scott and I met James and Rachelle last spring in Bellevue to meet about their wedding. It was a great meeting on a beautiful day, but we didn’t really get to know THEM. We’ve exchanged emails and phone calls, which helps a little, but it doesn’t really paint the whole picture. On Wednesday, though, we met at Parsons Garden in Seattle for their engagement session and by the end of the session I was totally in love with them and SO EXCITED to shoot their wedding next month.

Rachelle and James are adorable and have so much fun together, which made for a perfect session for Scott and I because everyone knows we’re totally ridiculous. They scouted out some perfect locations for us and were willing to climb trees and roll around on the ground; dream clients!

Little Leila turned 1 a few weeks ago and, just in case you were wondering, she is still pretty much the cutest kid in the entire world.

pam + grant + jetson

I met Pam a few years ago when she and Grant were looking for a nanny for Jetson. I met with her at a coffee shop and within about 10 minutes I was riding in her Jeep on the way back to her house to meet Grant. From the time Jetson was 8 months old to about 2 1/2 we spent most of our days together playing, laughing, walking to the coffee shop, and growing. I was working on my photography business, Pam was building her marketing company, and we spent hours hashing out millions of details and trying to help each other live our dreams. I adore this family so much and am so, so lucky to have all three of them in my life.

When I went back to Minnesota last month we spent the day together and I think I laughed the ENTIRE time. We started our day at a little fair in Minnetonka. Jets saw all the kids rolling down the hill and was so excited to try it out:

Ok. So. Our PLAN was to go back to their (brand new!) house and then head out to do a family session. Jetson, however, had no plans involving sitting still, standing still, running in a direction you pointed out, or paying attention.

Grant tried to captivate him by borrowing tips from Honey-I-Shrunk-The-Kids:

That worked until Jets announced that he had to go to the bathroom RIGHT NOW. I’ll let you guess how that one turned out:

I laughed the entire time I was editing these photos. Ok, so maybe it didn’t go exactly as planned, but still… so great. See you guys in September when we’ll try to do it up right!

ian, lisa, + sierra . family portrait photography

I was going to post these on Monday, but my brother is so excited about them that I couldn’t hold out. It’s been so fun for me to be able to document Ian, Lisa, and Sierra as they grow together. We started with Lisa’s maternity photos, then Sierra as a newborn, 4 months old, and now a little over a year!

As I was going through these today I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement that I’m able to provide these photos for my family. We all grew up around photography, and there’s nothing better than photographing people that love and appreciate this artform as much as I do. Add that these are people that I love and appreciate dearly and it’s just a dream scenario.

I lovelovelove you guys and can’t wait to see you in September!

ryen + jayna . tacoma family portraits

Right after their mini session Sunshine called me to book another photo session with Ryen and Jayna as a surprise to Jaime for Father’s Day. We all ran around Point Defiance cracking up laughing, as usual, and I think Sunshine was just stoked to get photos of Ryen without her two front teeth!

jay + jen . maternity

All day yesterday I kept thinking about Jay + Jen, and as I was running around trying to get my mountain of things done they were popping into my mind and I kept waiting for that one free moment to call them. Scott got home, jumped on facebook, saw their pages, and said “call Jen right now!” In the morning they’re heading to the hospital to deliver their little babe! I am SO EXCITED for them, and know without a doubt that they are going to be incredible, incredible parents. They are two of my favorite people in the entire world, and we’re all blessed that they’re bringing this babe into the world. It will, without a doubt, have a gentle, soulful, mindful (+hilarious!) spirit just like Jay + Jen.

When I was in Minnesota we did a quick maternity session and narrowly escaped melting from the crazy heat+humidity.

Joanna is a great photographer in the Twin Cities and it’s always really fun to be able to do a session for another photographer. It’s rare that we get a chance to be on the other side of the lens, so I’m glad we were able to set up a time when I was in Minnesota to document her adorable family.

Lauren is about the same age that my mom was when I was born, and I grew up with an amazing, strong, rockstar of a mom, and a family (+extended family +friends that treated me like family) that smothered me with all kinds of love. After meeting Lauren, Isabel, and Sandi it looks like little Skylar is super lucky to have the same kind of fun, wonderful, loving support system that I had.

I hope to meet her when I’m back in Minnesota, but for now here are some moments from Lauren’s maternity session!

Isabel is such an adorable, kind, and sweet little girl. On a hot + humid Minnesota evening it seems perfect to run through the grass, hide in the flowers, and send bubbles soaring.
