Jen and Josh live in Seattle and for months we’ve been trying to figure out how to connect and do their engagement session. The stars aligned and we managed to carve out some time on Christmas Eve while they were back in Minneapolis for the holidays.

Hanging out with people in their homes (or their sister’s homes, in this case!) is quickly turning into my favorite way to do a photo session. I love real life and involving people’s daily lives into their photographs as much as possible.

Jen and Josh, congratulations on your engagement! It was so great to finally spend some time with you guys and your hilarious pups; give Seattle a giant hug for me!

A few weeks ago I went down to Portland for a mini Vagabond Bond gathering (also known as one of the best 48-hour segments of my life. Or was it?). While I was down there Kristy let me tag along for an engagement session she had planned with the adorable Christie + Tyler. It’s so interesting to see how another photographer works and interacts with people while they’re shooting and it’s reinforced time and time again that photography has little to do with a camera and everything to do with how a photographer sees the world around them.

I have the coolest job ever.

Check out how I saw Tyler and Christie below and then jump on over to Kristy’s Blog to see what she saw.

This session is a perfect example of why I love to do engagement sessions before weddings and why I always include them in my wedding package. Scott and I met James and Rachelle last spring in Bellevue to meet about their wedding. It was a great meeting on a beautiful day, but we didn’t really get to know THEM. We’ve exchanged emails and phone calls, which helps a little, but it doesn’t really paint the whole picture. On Wednesday, though, we met at Parsons Garden in Seattle for their engagement session and by the end of the session I was totally in love with them and SO EXCITED to shoot their wedding next month.

Rachelle and James are adorable and have so much fun together, which made for a perfect session for Scott and I because everyone knows we’re totally ridiculous. They scouted out some perfect locations for us and were willing to climb trees and roll around on the ground; dream clients!
