Scott’s mom, Patti, is an incredible doula here in Tacoma and since I moved here I’ve been hearing stories of Nancy Spencer. She’s a midwife that has a beautiful birthing center in Lake Tapps. It’s encouraging to know that there are great people offering alternatives to families that don’t necessarily want to deliver in a hospital.

We set up a time to shoot her headshots and it was so great to finally meet her and hear her story. She’s been helping babies enter the world for nearly 40 years and I can only imagine her stories!

Katrina emailed me a few weeks ago about getting some headshots done and I was super excited. I’ve explained it a little bit before, but I LOVE headshots. I don’t know if there’s anything more real than a straight-up headshot. It’s completely 1-on-1 and is just an honest portrayal of that person.

Two days before our scheduled shoot I got this SOS via iChat from Katrina:

We decided to continue with the scheduled shoot and just reshoot if necessary. Luckily we were just fine and Katrina walked into the loft on Saturday with gorgeous blonde hair. This kind of thing has happened at least a million times before, though. We always want to look our best for photo shoots/weddings/dates/vacations, so somehow we lose our minds and decide to make a drastic physical change right before hand. {paging wrecklessgirl! ;) }

I told Katrina this story, but a couple years ago I won a contest that let me shoot Lollapalooza. I had blue hair at the time and right before I left I made sure to re-blue my hair so it looked amazing. Over the weekend the combination of rain + sweat (classy) meant that I constantly had blue dye dripping down my shoulders.

Alright, enough with the embarrassing stories and onto Katrina’s headshots!
