Shortly after I moved to Tacoma I connected with Ruth after seeing her website and reading about the awesome classes where she teaches sign language to babies and toddlers (and parents!). In March I was able to sit in on one of her classes and I took some photos of the action. Her next round of classes start on June 2, so you should connect with her ASAP to see if there’s room for you and your babe.

Ruth, Greg, and Lily came to hang out with us on our mini session day and I was so excited to capture the awesome spirit of this family. They have a ton of fun, upbeat energy and spending time with them was a great way to recharge midday.

We started by getting some coffee and Lily showed us what a little ham she was!

After we got coffee it started raining (coffee? and rain? in Tacoma? WEIRD). Luckily Scott and I made an oh-shit-it-always-rains-here-maybe-we-should-have-an-umbrella run the night before.

Lily broke out a serious dance-a-thon mid-session that was SO cute!

I LOVE photographing families. It’s something I’ve realized more and more, and families like this just reaffirm it. Not only did we have a TON of fun hanging out with them and getting to know them, but they really have something special together. Little Bennett is an energetic little guy and we bonded right away. Bennett, like every kid his age, is so interested in everything around him. This can be amazing to watch, but after growning up with 8 brothers+sisters and nannying for multiple families over the past 8 years I know that it can also be completely exhausting answering the never-ending stream of “what’s that? how does it work? why does it do that? when can we go over there? what are we going to do next? why is that there? who is that?”. One thing that I noticed and had complete respect for immediately was that Buck answered every one of those questions, and a million more, with long, thoughtful answers. I thought it was so inspiring that he never threw a “just because” back at Bennett.

It was immediately obvious that Nancy has an incredible, soft, and kind heart, and little Rachael has that same energy about her. She’s such a spirited little being, eyes wide open, interested in everything around her, but completely calm from the inside out.

Scott and I have been laughing a lot while looking through these photos over the past couple of days, and at least a million “AWWWWWWWW!”‘s have been thrown across the room.

Some of my favorite moments from our day:

This smile completely melts my heart!

Superman!

Bennett LOVES his little sister and was so sweet to her all day.

Nancy’s gorgeous smile.

Big sister/nanny Sara kicked in as Bennett started running towards the train tracks. Love that Scott snapped this.

Thanks so much, you guys! We can’t wait to see you again!
