I attempted to grow some sweet potato vines from these sweet potatoes but, despite changing the water every day, they completely molded and rotted, so they’re now in the compost bin. I think the problem was just that I started with really old sweet potatoes anyway (which is why I decided to grow them instead of eat them). I’ll try again with fresher ones.

They look good, though, right? My fire escape/future rooftop garden spot is becoming the perfect little photo location.

In Tacoma we had a small closet next to the kitchen that we decided to turn into a little garden. Normal people would’ve chosen to grow lettuces and herbs and things that make sense in an indoor small space. Me? I opted for Mandarin Oranges and Mangos and all other things ridiculous.

This year has been one of continual change, which I actually don’t mind and in most cases tend to prefer (sometimes to a fault). At the beginning of December I moved into a new apartment and to say it’s been good for me would be a giant understatement. As the world is flying by and all of the other details of my life are a total whirlwind it’s been so helpful for me to be able to walk into my apartment where everything is exactly as I left it, be able to breathe, and find a little bit of sanity and calmness.

Because of that I’ve been excited about making my apartment a reflection of who I am and filling it with things that I adore. With this spring-like weather (that’s pretty much lasted all winter) I’ve been getting excited about doing some urban gardening and have been planning for an awesome rooftop container garden this summer. I started some seeds, which I’ll post more about later, but to fulfill my MUST HAVE MORE PLANTS NOW mood lately I planted some succulents into a container that I was just gifted.

I bought one desert rose, two living rocks, and one “assorted succulent” (the jig is up, Bachman’s… that’s just aloe).

After going a little overboard photographing each plant I finally got to work. I separated the aloe vera into four separate sections and finally settled on an arrangement in the planter.

Loving it! It looks adorable on my window sill and makes me smile ever time I walk in. Mission. Accomplished.

Hanging out with people in their homes (or [...]]]> Jen and Josh live in Seattle and for months we’ve been trying to figure out how to connect and do their engagement session. The stars aligned and we managed to carve out some time on Christmas Eve while they were back in Minneapolis for the holidays.

Hanging out with people in their homes (or their sister’s homes, in this case!) is quickly turning into my favorite way to do a photo session. I love real life and involving people’s daily lives into their photographs as much as possible.

Jen and Josh, congratulations on your engagement! It was so great to finally spend some time with you guys and your hilarious pups; give Seattle a giant hug for me!
